Tessellations

The connections between mathematics and art are very strong and frequent. Grade 4 has been learning  tessellation that  is integrated with our new unit of inquiry on The Language of The Arts.
Students have learnt that there are 3 basic attributes of tessellation :

First, they are repeated patterns.

Second, tessellations do not have gaps or overlaps.

Third, tessellations can continue on a plane forever.

There were some activities that  students did during this lesson. They had some hands on activities to find out  what shapes will tesselate. Students also used a tessellation website  to create their tessellation pattern and kidspiration program  before they made it into a piece of square paper.

Here are some activities that Grade 4 class did during this geometry lesson.
