Tessellations

The connections between mathematics and art are very strong and frequent. Grade 4 has been learning  tessellation that  is integrated with our new unit of inquiry on The Language of The Arts.
Students have learnt that there are 3 basic attributes of tessellation :

First, they are repeated patterns.

Second, tessellations do not have gaps or overlaps.

Third, tessellations can continue on a plane forever.

There were some activities that  students did during this lesson. They had some hands on activities to find out  what shapes will tesselate. Students also used a tessellation website  to create their tessellation pattern and kidspiration program  before they made it into a piece of square paper.

Here are some activities that Grade 4 class did during this geometry lesson.

Grade 4 students joined the planting programs and some grade 4 students who joined the GIN (Global Issues Network) ASA joined the recycling program that will be applied to the whole school community. Here are some photos taken during the program today.
